IMTAL Member Session: The Controversial Stage: Interpreting Sensitive Topics Through Museum Theatre Sunday, May 22, 1:15PM-2:30PM

This session will use live and recorded performances, case studies and discussion to explore ways that museum theater is used to interpret controversial and culturally sensitive issues such as tolerance, constitutional rights, and climate change and environmental sustainability. We will present various museum theater methods used to address these topics and provide attendees with tools and resources for the creation of their own programs.


Craft, Camaraderie, and Comfort Food: EdCom Evening Reception and Awards Ceremony Sunday, May 22, 6:00PM-8:00PM

Join colleagues from EdCom, Museum Education Roundtable and George Washington University Museum Education Program for a fun and inspired evening of dining and mingling at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft. View artwork in progress from the residency program, check out the stunning and thought-provoking exhibition Lisa Gralnick: The Gold Standard, and explore the craft garden used to grow art materials. Experience all aspects of this unique institution as we fete this year's EdCom Award winners and enjoy Texas-style comfort food and a cash bar. Buses depart the Convention Center (Hall C) from 5:45-6 P.M. and return to host hotels at 8:00 P.M.

IMTAL offers public speaking workshops for presenters at AAM. Whether or not you have a session this year, this workshop will refresh your skills. If you’re up early, join us!


IMTAL Luncheon Monday, May 23, 12:15PM-1:30PM

Meet the IMTAL Board and network with other members while enjoying a delicious lunch!  We will present the IMTY Award, discuss current topics of interest to the museum theatre community, and explore the use of improvisation in museum theatre programs. (Tickets are no longer available, but bring your own lunch and join us anyway!)
Member Session: Best Practices of Creating and Sustaining Museum-Developed Live Programming Monday, May 23. 2:15PM-3:30PM

This session will explore the best practices of integrating and sustaining live programming that creates innovative educational connections to collections and exhibitions. Presenters will explore best practices for viable public programs including museum theater, live demonstrations, first-person interpretation and storytelling.



EdCom Marketplace of Ideas Monday, May 23, 3:30PM–5:00PM

IMTAL is hosting a booth at EdCom's Marketplace of Ideas to spread the word about museum theatre. Stop by and say hello, learn about current programs, and find out how you can get more involved.
